I had this idea to have a monthly employee spotlight on our blog… but I was worried that people would be hesitant or not know what to say. So I figured that I could be the “guinea pig” and write the first post. Now there’s no excuse – they have an example and I can tell them… it’s not scary, and certainly not time-consuming!
What is your role at DASI?
I’m the Marketing Manager. I’m relatively new to the role, and it is taking some getting used to! My primary responsibilities include managing our social media accounts, email marketing and marketing plan development. It gets pretty busy! Currently I have one other marketing team member, but hopefully we will continue to grow.
How long have you been working for DASI?
I have been with DASI since March of 2015 and there is definitely still a lot to learn!
What do you enjoy most about working for DASI?
It’s a great, relaxed atmosphere. There’s definitely a lot of work to be done most days, but you don’t have people hovering over and micro-managing you – you’re trusted to do your job.
Do you have an office nickname? What is it, and how did you get it?
Not exactly an office nickname, but a few people like to call me “Lisa” all because my boss once made the comment I looked like Lisa Loeb. Little do they realize that I had a sister and good friend growing up named Lisa, so I’m used to being called that name by accident and responding to it!
Tell us a little bit about your life outside of work.
Boy, that’s a loaded question! I’ve had quite the busy life outside of work this past year and I’m hoping that it settles down now to a place where I can explore some possible new hobbies like blogging volunteering at an animal rescue. However, this year has been consumed by change! Not only did I start this job at DASI in March, I’ve also finished grad school, bought a house, renovated a kitchen and planned a wedding! I don’t know the meaning of the “free time” concept, but I can’t wait to learn!
Before working at DASI, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?
When I first graduated from Michigan State, it was smack in the middle of the recession, so I had trouble finding a job. I ended up working part time at the PetSmart PetsHotel running Doggie Day Camp and taking care of our boarding dogs. It was meant to be temporary, and I was actually afraid of big dogs when I started. I ended up absolutely loving it there – even with all the mess, noise and craziness that comes with that many dogs in one place – and stayed for three and a half years. And now I LOVE big dogs! I miss that job a lot sometimes, and hope to have time to start volunteering with animals now that I have my “free time” back.
If you had to survive on just one food, what would it be?
Potatoes. Hands down. You can cook them so many different ways, I wouldn’t get bored. Mashed, baked, roasted, fries, hash browns. You name it, I love it.
Is there a TV show that you are ashamed to admit you love?
Too many! I have a lot of what I tend to call “guilty pleasure” shows. Probably the most embarrassing one right now is “Pretty Little Liars.” I am far too old to enjoy this show, but I’m hooked! It’s a good thing I am not home during the day to watch soap operas… I get addicted to ridiculous drama!
