Do you remember your first week of college? Did you live on campus, or did you commute? What were your favorite things about your first week? Did your University or college have a “welcome week” to help you settle in?
This year, students at Oakland University get a special treat as part of their welcome week! For the first time in OU’s history, welcome week this year will include a “field trip” event for the students to participate in if interested. This event is called Grizz Night and will be held on September 8 from 5pm-9pm. Grizz Night will give the OU community a chance to explore the Pontiac community culture, food and fun.
Here in Pontiac and in the surrounding areas, much love and support is shown to the neighboring college, Oakland University, as well as “Grizz” the Golden Grizzly. The University is located just a few miles away from DASI’s Downtown Pontiac Headquarters. In recent months, the City of Pontiac and Oakland University have joined forces to create an initiative in the hopes of emphasizing community engagement. This partnership is viewed as a catalyst for the future of the Oakland county workforce and community development.
Earlier this spring, Grizz Night debuted and was so well received that the University decided to make it a recurring event each year. DASI Solutions is excited to once again participate in this great event geared toward enhancing the vitality of Pontiac while enhancing the experiential learning opportunities for Oakland students.
DASI Solutions will be opening our doors (and our parking lot) to the students and faculty of Oakland University on Grizz Night. The event is slated to run from 5pm-9pm, starting with a walking tour of the businesses that are located within the wide track loop of Downtown Pontiac. Here at our building, students will be able to get up close and personal with our 3D Printers inside of our STEM Studio, learn about the latest applications for Additive Manufacturing and Rapid Prototyping, and explore the career opportunities in Mechanical Engineering. In addition to the walking tour, there will be other activities going throughout the loop that include:
- LIVE broadcast of WXOU radio
- Battle of the DJ’s beginning at 8pm
- Kickboxing on the Sidewalk
- Movies in the Park & S’mores
We had a great time with the students of OU during the last Grizz Night and are looking forward to another fun-filled night with the Grizzlies!
