UPDATED TECH TIP: Clean Uninstall of SOLIDWORKS

**DISCLAIMER: This document assumes that SolidWorks was originally installed using the default locations. If your installation location for SolidWorks differs please adjust the procedure below accordingly. The procedure in the following document requires access and edits to the Windows registry. Any such edits are done at your own risk and should only be attempted under the advisement of your IT professional. If you are uncomfortable with following the procedure below please seek assistance. It is advised to back up your registry and any valued data before making any changes to the system registry.   1. Backup existing SOLIDWORKS settings using the Copy Settings Wizard:
    1. Windows Start menu > Navigate to the letter S > SOLIDWORKS Tools [version] > Copy Settings Wizard
    2. Choose Save Settings and save them to a specified location
  2. Backup all local customized files (templates, design library, toolbox, etc.)
    (Program Data may be a hidden file, if you cannot find it, please ensure you have Hidden Folders viewable)

    1. Templates: C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS [version]\templates
    2. Design Library: C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS [version]\design library
    3. Toolbox: C:\SOLIDWORKS Data [version]
    4. Weldment Profiles: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\lang\english\weldment profiles
    5. SheetMetal Gauge Table: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\lang\english\Sheet Metal Gauge Tables
    6. SheetMetal Bend Table: C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS\lang\english\Sheetmetal Bend Tables
  3. Transfer license (standalone only):
    1. Open SOLIDWORKS > Help > Transfer License
  4. Uninstall SOLIDWORKS in the Control Panel (see pic below):
    1. For Windows XP:
      Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Right click on SOLIDWORKS > Remove
    2. For Windows 7 and Vista:
      Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program > Right click on SOLIDWORKS > Uninstall
    3. For Windows 10:
      Start> Settings> System> Apps and Features> Locate SOLIDWORKS then left click> UninstallSOLIDWORKS Uninstall Process

When using this tool, some directories may still exist. Please remove the following:
Registry: (Windows Start Menu > type “regedit” > press enter)
** Please use caution when editing the Windows Registry, Deletions cannot be
undone.**
_ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ SOLIDWORKS
(NOTE: if you are using EPDM, DO NOT DELETE; instead, go into this key and delete only the IM & SolidWorks [version] subkeys, and leave everything else.)
_ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ SRAC
_ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\eDrawings
_ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SOLIDWORKS (NOTE: if you are using EPDM, DO NOT DELETE; instead, go into this key and delete only the IM & SOLIDWORKS [version] subkeys, and leave everything else.)
_ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SRAC
_ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\SOLIDWORKS (NOTE: 64 bit install only. If you are using EPDM, DO NOT DELETE; instead, go into this key and delete only the IM & SolidWorks [version] subkeys, and leave everything else.)

For 2012 and Previous Versions:

Please uninstall SOLIDWORKS using step 4 in the Control Panel, then use the above list in step 6 to completely uninstall the rest of the SOLIDWORKS directories.
