DASI Partners with Caring Kids to Bring Some Holiday Cheer

For the third consecutive year, DASI Solutions participated in the Adopted Family program with Caring Kids. DASI’s employees contribute by purchasing gifts or giving money to the HR Elf – yours truly – who does the shopping on their behalf. Each year, the generosity of my colleagues continues to impress me. Even our employees’ children donate for the family. When shopping, it makes me proud to pay for gifts with a bag full of quarters, dimes and pennies because I am watching the character traits of our employees shine in their children, knowing that the smallest contribution is usually the greatest.

DASI's 2015 Holiday Adopted Family

When deciding to volunteer, sometimes it becomes challenging to help based on the non-profit’s limited resources. I’ve often felt like a stalker, tracking down non-profit staff, while making multiple phone calls trying to help others. Caring Kids reaches out in October each year to make sure we are on board for adoption and finds a family for us  a few weeks before Thanksgiving. We can choose the size of the family we want to adopt and then get a wish list for each child, complete with clothing sizes (adults in the adopted family cannot participate).

Now on to my favorite part…we bring one wrapped gift to a luncheon with all adopters and families. We are not obligated to wrap any of the gifts for the children; the adopted family parent handles that. For those of us who hack the present wrapping process, this is fantastic. This year, we adopted Samiyah. Her mom told me that she was laid off from her job last month and was unable to buy gifts for her daughter this year. DASI’s employees guaranteed a memorable Christmas for Samiyah and brought tears to her mom’s eyes.
