Here we are, just a couple weeks removed from SOLIDWORKS World 2017. There were so many awesome moments during this year’s conference in LA – from SOLIDWORKS CEO, Gian Paolo Bassi, being part of a magic trick showcasing equipment built in SOLIDWORKS, to the Robo Rumble, to the “Big Event” at Paramount Studios.

Hopefully you were able to catch at least some of the live stream of the general sessions, but if not, we’ve got the best-of-the-best highlights to share.

SOLIDWORKS and Star WarsWhat’s Next?

I think everyone’s favorite part of the general sessions at SOLIDWORKS World each year tends to be the preview of what’s coming for the next year. This typically happens on Day 3. Last year we got to witness a great comedy sketch putting together two of our favorite things – SOLIDWORKS and Star Wars!

This year, we got a few new product highlights earlier in the conference before getting a sneak peek at the core enhancements for SOLIDWORKS 2018 (this time with a fun America’s Next Top Model(er) theme!

The next great manufacturing solutions for the SOLIDWORKS user is almost here!  SOLIDWORKS: CAM, powered by CAMWorks, is the next step toward a fully integrated design-to-manufacturing system from SOLIDWORKS. Alongside products and features like Costing, MBD and Inspection, a CAM product was inevitable. And what better way than to work with a Gold Partner like CAMWorks? SOLIDWORKS: CAM will be in beta during 2017 and is being planned for release within SOLIDWORKS 2018.

Simulation Engineer

Also coming in the next year will be a new solution for high-complexity simulation, particularly structural analysis. This product, Simulation Engineer, comes to us from our sister brand, SIMULIA. Simulation Engineer will become part of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and should be available worldwide by the end of 2017.

SOLIDWORKS Enhancements for 2018

Everyone’s favorite part of the SOLIDWORKS World general sessions did not disappoint this year! There are a ton of great new features coming for SOLIDWORKS 2018. From freehand sketching with a stylus, to new file formats supported by 3D Interconnect, the America’s Next Top Modeler skit surely entertained and impressed the audience of over 5,000 SOLIDWORKS users and resellers in attendance!

Be sure to check out the SOLIDWORKS blog for a full listing of the new features introduced!

We’re going back! That’s right, SOLIDWORKS World 2018 will also be in Los Angeles next February! So if you were really hoping to get out to LA and hit up some Hollywood sightseeing, you have another chance next year. We hope to see you there!
